Hi! I’m Sarah York, a textile and surface pattern designer. I grew up in a beach town in California, but I love my new hometown of Tacoma, Washington. I find beauty everywhere, around the city, around the world, in nature, museums, colors, books, films, and always flowers. Florals are my favorite inspiration and pattern subject!
l’ve been drawn to art, textiles and patterns from a young age, before I knew that the job of pattern designer even existed. I get excited about the entire process of creating from concept, painting, to repeat and seeing designs on a finished product.
I’m passionate about creating beautiful, responsibly made products, and working with companies that value how their products are made from beginning to end.
I have a BA in Art History and graduated from the a small apprenticeship program in Berkeley, where I trained in classical hand painting techniques and Photoshop and Illustrator. I really enjoy the combination of hand drawing and painting as well as finishing up patterns digitally to create something totally unique and special.
I would love to connect with you about freelance opportunities, licensing or purchasing artwork. I have worked with companies such as The Land of Nod and Cloud9 Fabrics and I’m excited to hear about how we might work together. Please contact me and we can chat!
